CIS 1020 was one of the classes required to fulfill the General Education requirements. The experience in this class has been interesting since it was a new approach to learning how to use Microsoft office. I have valued the different approach to learning by using the simulation software, which allowed for more a hands on work and interaction. Since i am more of a visual learner, this software made learning more productive and engaging for me. I have really liked working on the Grader Projects because it allowed me to work with the actual software and receive instant feedback and grading after completion; which definitely helped build confidence and familiarity with the different functions of Microsoft Office 2007.
So far I have learned how to better use Microsoft Word 2007, and Microsoft Excel 2007 and Microsoft Power Point 2007. Prior to this class I mostly used Microsoft Word; which was the program I was most familiar with. Nevertheless as I started the course I realized that there were a lot of things I still did not know. Specially I realized that I was not taking full advantage of every tool that the software had to offer. For the most part I have been using the previous version of Word, but as he semester went I found out the newer version its a lot better, even tough it has been taking time to get used to it, specially since the layout is different.
But I personally believe that I benefited most from learning how to use Microsoft Excel. I have had very little training with this software before; but as I completed the course I realized how useful and well designed this program is. The class also helped me realized that Excel is not as mysterious or hard to use as I had previously thought. The fact that Microsoft has created a comprehensive list of functions in Excel can really help anyone accomplish any task desired. The versatility of the program is fantastic.
I believe this class will help me in every aspect life. Career wise it is essential to know how to use all of this programs, since everything is becoming digitalized and computer oriented. I also think that I can use what I have learned in my personal life, to keep my self organized, specially financially wise by using software like Excel. By staying current with technology, specially anything related to computer literacy will ensure I will have more options out in the work field and, which would be a valuable asset to me and my employers.
